Service Pages vs. Articles: Which One Should You Create?

Not every useful keyword deserves a new service page. The right format depends on what the visitor is trying to accomplish.

Use a service page for a real capability

A service page should represent something the business genuinely offers. It needs enough substance to explain the problem, the work, the process, relevant deliverables and the next step. Creating dozens of nearly identical service pages for tiny keyword variations usually makes the site weaker, not stronger.

DDPW principle: Create pages around real distinctions in the work, not superficial variations in phrasing.

Use an article for a narrower question

Articles are a better fit for educational questions, comparisons, explanations, mistakes to avoid, frameworks and step-by-step guidance. They can attract visitors earlier in the decision process and then guide them toward a relevant service page.

Use an FAQ for concise recurring questions

If a question can be answered accurately in a short paragraph and comes up repeatedly, an FAQ may be the best home. If the answer requires context, examples or multiple sections, it probably deserves a dedicated article.

Avoid duplicate intent

Two pages that compete to answer the same question can create confusion. Before adding a new page, ask whether an existing page can be strengthened instead. A growing website benefits from more useful content, not simply more URLs.

Build a clear content ladder

A practical structure often looks like this: the home page introduces the business, a services page organizes capabilities, dedicated service pages explain each major offer, articles answer narrower questions, and case studies demonstrate application. Internal links connect those layers.
