SEO Foundations for a New Business Website

A new website does not need hundreds of pages to become search-ready. It needs a clear structure, useful content, and technical basics that make every important page understandable.

Start with the pages people actually need

Before thinking about rankings, identify the pages a real visitor would expect to find. Most business sites need a clear home page, a useful services overview, dedicated pages for major services, an about page, a contact path, and supporting information that answers common questions.

DDPW principle: SEO becomes much easier when the site architecture mirrors how people naturally look for information.

Give each important page one primary job

A service page should clearly explain a service. An article should answer a narrower question. A case study should show how work was applied. When one page tries to rank for ten unrelated topics, it often becomes vague for both people and search engines.

Strong pages usually have a descriptive title, a clear heading, natural supporting language, useful internal links, and enough detail to genuinely satisfy the topic.

Write metadata for humans

Title tags and meta descriptions help search engines understand the page, but they also influence whether a person chooses to click. A title should state the subject clearly. A meta description should explain what the visitor will find without making inflated promises.

Metadata should support the page — not compensate for weak content.

Build internal links early

Internal links connect related pages and create visible pathways through the site. A service overview can link to detailed service pages. Articles can link back to the relevant service. FAQs can point to deeper explanations. This helps both visitors and crawlers understand which pages belong together.

Protect the technical basics

Use readable URLs, mobile-friendly layouts, HTTPS, a working XML sitemap, sensible caching, accessible navigation and stable page structures. Avoid adding plugins or scripts simply because they promise SEO benefits; every addition should have a clear job.
